Salar De Uyuni
12.03.2010 - 15.04.2010
A huge dessert of salt, once a sea and raised by tectonic activity, the scenery in and around the salar was simply amazing. We spent 4 days on a jeep tour of the area, which included not only the huge salar, but deserts scattered with stacks of rocks (something out of some Dali painting), coulered lagoons with flamengos, mountains of tousands of colours, amazing stars, amazing sunsets, and a spiritual sunrise. The stretching scenery also makes a great backdrop for "wacky crazy" perspective photos, in which one can apear to eat a car, or be bigger OR SMALLER than one really is, mental i know.
On the first day our jeep broke down, we had to spend 2 hours in the desert (actually quite cold!). But, it was a blessing in discuise - that night we slept in a tiny pueblo with no other tourists other than the 8 in our group of two 4x4s. The stars were absolutely incredible, the altiotude and freezing air must be near perfect conditions. Somehow i contracted the name monster. . The ffod on the tour was good, everything was really quite excellent. We were lucky and went with an amazing group, which makes everything better.
Obviously i had no camera battery from about minute 2 of the tour. Here are some photos i got from Suz.
